dynamicneighbors REPRINTED
FROM THE JACSON SUN
Most would consider the influx
of new businesses, restaurants and industry to be the domineering
force behind a city's growth. But, beyond the business scene,
there are other organizations offering more than food and clothes
to our area's maturity.
The Jackson Center for Independent Living reaches into the lives
of both the disabled and the non-disabled and enhances the quality
of living for the total community. For the disabled, JCIL works
to fill whatever needs arise while striving to live in a world
built for the non-disabled.
The Center's services help open the door to society for the disabled,
preventing separation from the rest of the community. JCIL's
assistance also creates a chance for important contributions
to the community. The disabled are encouraged to overcome or
remove the obstacles of their lives, reinforce character with
independence and strength and then actively express that strength.
While the Center does focus on assisting the disabled population
of West Tennessee, it defies a narrow vision and extends itelf
into the non-disabled world. This outreach highlights the tie
between the disabled and the non-disabled while working to eliminate
the gap.
JCIL's efforts add greatly to the quality of living for both
the disabled and the non-disabled by encouraging both to become
dynamic neighbors.
